1 Corinthians 1: 18-19, 26-31

For the message of the cross is foolishness to those who are perishing, but to us who are being saved it is the power of God. For it is written:

“I will destroy the wisdom of the wise; the intelligent of the intelligent I will frustrate.”

Brothers, think of what you were when you were called. Not many of you were wise by human standards; not many were influential; not many of you were of noble birth. But God chose the foolish things of the world to shame the wise; God chose the weak things of the world to shame the strong. He chose the lowly things of this world and the despised things–and the things that are not–to nullify the things that are, so that no one may boast before him. It is because of him that you are in Christ Jesus, who has become for us wisdom from God–that is, our righteousness, holiness and redemption. Therefore, as it is written: “Let him who boasts boast in the Lord.”

A Thought

We cannot base our faith on our own wisdom, but on God’s power. Without God there is nothing within man that can save him from the sins of this world–not knowledge, not right living, not power, not success nor any amount of money. When we come to God we must all come the same way regardless of who we are or what we think we know. We must humble ourselves in faith believing there is a God in whom we cannot see that sent his Son, Jesus Christ to earth that was born of a virgin, lived without sin, died on a cross and was resurrected back to life on the third day. This is exactly what God chose to do for each of us to receive salvation and a right relationship with him. With man this is all impossible and foolish to believe. God chose the foolish things to shame the wise. The only things we can boast about are the things of God–the unseen.

Our Prayer

Father thank you for making all things possible to all who will believe. If we are to be wise we must ask you for wisdom. Your word teaches us that a wise man wins souls. Thank you that you are our righteousness, holiness and redemption. Help us to be a bold witness of the things you have done for us that by the power of the Holy Spirit others will believe in you. In Jesus name ask, amen.
