Psalm 123

I lift up my eyes to you, to you whose throne is in heaven. As the eyes of slaves look to the hand of their master, as the eyes of a maid look to the hand of her mistress, so our eyes look to the Lord our God, till he shows us mercy.

Have mercy on us, O Lord, have mercy on us, for we have endured much contempt. We have endured much ridicule from the proud, much contempt from the arrogant.

A Thought

The writer of this Psalm tells of their dependance on the Lord for his mercy to deliver them from the hand of others. Some people try to elevate themselves with pride while looking down on others in contempt. When we keep our focus on our Lord and humble ourselves in mercy, he is faithful to give us direction for deliverance and to provide our every need. We must keep our eyes on our Father who is enthroned in heaven and not on others that would ridicule us.

Our Prayer

Father thank you for your mercy to lead us in the paths of your righteousness while suppling our every need. Help us to humble ourselves in your mercy, as we endure the persecution of others in this life.  We ask in Jesus’ name, amen.
