1 Corinthians 6: 12-20

“Everything is permissible for me”–but not everything is beneficial. “Everything is permissible for me”–but I will not be mastered by anything. “Food is for the stomach and the stomach for food”–but God will destroy them both. The body is not meant for sexual immorality, but for the Lord, and the Lord for the body. By his power God raised the Lord from the dead, and he will raise us also. Do you not know that your bodies are members of Christ himself? Shall I then take the members of Christ and unite them with a prostitute? Never! Do you not know that he who unites himself with a prostitute is one with her in body? For it is said, “The two will become one flesh? But he who unites himself with the Lord is one with him in spirit.

Flee from sexual immorality. All other sins a man commits are outside his body, but he who sins sexually sins against his own body. Do you not know that your body is the temple of the Holy Spirit, who is in you, whom you have received from God? You are not your own, you have been bought at a price. Therefore honor God with your body.

A Thought

Our bodies are made to be the temple of the Holy Spirit. When we receive Jesus Christ as our redeemer, we should leave behind all things that do not honor God because his Spirit now lives inside of our bodies. We must control our own bodies not to be sexually immoral (fornication, adultery, effeminate, abusers of themselves with mankind) along with all things that tend to control our lives away from God (all forms of idolatry, thievery, covetousness, too much food or drink, revelry, extortion). We are to be one with Christ as we honor God in all our ways including our bodies.

Our Prayer

Thank you Father for the price that Christ paid for forgiveness of our sin. Help us by the power of the Holy Spirit that we may be cleansed from all sin that we may honor you with our body and in the life we live. Fill us with more and more of your love. We ask in Jesus’ name, amen.
