Mark 9: 2-9
After six days Jesus took Peter, James and John with him and led them up a high mountain, where they were all alone. There he was transfigured before them. His clothes became dazzling white, whiter than anyone in the world could bleach them. And there appeared before him Elijah and Moses, who were talking to Jesus.
Peter said to Jesus, “Rabbi it is good for us to be here. Let us put up three shelters—one for you, one for Moses and one for Elijah.” (He did not know what to say, they was so frightened.)
Then a cloud appeared and enveloped them, and a voice came from the cloud, “This is my Son whom I love. Listen to him!”
Suddenly, when they looked around, they no longer saw anyone with them except Jesus.
As they were coming down the mountain, Jesus gave them orders not to tell anyone what they had seen until the Son of Man had risen from the dead.
A Thought
Jesus had spoken six days earlier to the crowds and his disciples that some of them would see the kingdom of God come with power. Surely the disciples did see the kingdom of God come with power! Jesus was totally transformed before their eyes! Moses, who had received the law for God’s people to live by while he had visited with the Lord on a mountain, and Elijah, who had gone to heaven while still alive on a chariot of fire in a whirlwind, both appeared before them talking to Jesus. And a voice spoke from the cloud saying, “This is my Son whom I love. Listen to him!” Then Jesus tells them the Son of Man would be raised from the dead! What a fearful and powerful day for Peter, James and John!
Our Prayer
Father thank you for the power of the transfiguration of Jesus as seen by the disciples that will also transform us by the power of your Spirit. We desire to listen, obey and hide in our heart the recorded word of our risen Savior, Jesus the Christ. In his name, we praise you, amen.
