Mark 1: 9-15

At that time Jesus came from Nazareth in Galilee and was baptized by John in the Jordan. As Jesus was coming up out of the water, he saw heaven being torn open and the Spirit descending on him like a dove. And a voice came from heaven:  “You are my Son, whom I love; with you I am well pleased.”

At once the Spirit sent him out into the desert, and he was in the desert forty days, being tempted by Satan. He was with the wild animals, and angels attended him.

After John was put in prison, Jesus went into Galilee, proclaiming the good news of God. “The time has come,” he said. “The kingdom of God is near. Repent and believe the good news!”

A Thought

When John had baptized Jesus in the Jordan, John saw heaven torn open with the the Spirit descending on Jesus like a dove. John heard a voice from heaven of the Father speaking that Jesus is his Son, whom He loves and is well pleased with Him. John who had been in the presence of God the Father, God the Son and God the Holy Spirit, was soon to be placed in prison. Jesus was at once sent by the Spirit into the desert with the wild animals for forty days to be tempted by Satan and attended by the angels.

After John had been placed in prison and Jesus had overcome all of Satan’s temptations in the desert, Jesus went into Galilee. The time had come for Jesus to proclaim the good news of God–the gift of the kingdom of God was with them. They needed to repent and believe the good news of the promised Savior.

Our Prayer

Father thank you that your message for salvation is still the same for us today. We repent; we believe in your Son; we believe in your Holy Spirit. We ask that you send your Spirit to give us your gift of wisdom and revelation that we will grow to know you better and that we will turn from our wicked ways. We desire to be your disciple and to make disciples for your kingdom. We ask in Jesus’ name, amen.
