Psalms 51: 13-17
Then I will teach transgressors your ways, and sinners will turn back to you. Save me from bloodguilt, O God, the God who saves me, and my tongue will sing of your righteousness. O Lord, open my lips, and my mouth will declare your praise. You do not delight in sacrifice, or I would bring it; you do not take pleasure in burnt offerings. The sacrifices of God are broken spirit; a broken and contrite heart, O God, you will not despise.
A Thought
David is acknowledging that God saved him from guilt of his shedding of innocent blood. David will now serve God by teaching transgressors to know the way to turn back to God. David will sing about the righteousness of God and declare praises to Him. David has found that God takes no pleasure in sacrifices or in burnt offerings. If anyone desires to please God it will come in a humble attitude of a broken and repentant heart because of our guilt of sin. Then we too, like David, will want to teach others about the God who can save; we will be set free from our guilt and will desire to sing praises of his love, mercy and righteousness. We can now be in a new covenant with God made possible in his Son, Jesus Christ. Praise the name of our God!
Our Prayer
Father in humility we come before you with brokenness and thanksgiving for forgiveness from sin. We can now rejoice knowing that we can be forgiven; we are brought back in a loving relationship with you. Fill us with your Holy Spirit with a boldness to teach others about you. Put a new song of praise in our hearts as we take delight in you. We ask in Jesus’ name, amen.
