Psalm 31: 9-16

Be merciful to me, O Lord, for I am in distress; my eyes grow weak with sorrow, my soul and my body with grief. My life is consumed by anguish and my years by groaning; my strength fails because of my affliction, and my bones grow weak. Because of all my enemies, I am the utter contempt of my neighbors; I am a dread to my friends—those who see me on the street flee from me. I am forgotten by them as though I were dead; I have become like broken pottery. For I hear the slander of many; there is terror on every side; they conspire against me and plot to take my life.

But I trust in you, O Lord; I say, “You are my God.” My times are in your hands; delivery me from my enemies and from those who pursue me. Let your face shine on your servant; save me in your unfailing love.

A Thought

David cries our to the Lord to be merciful to delivery him in his distress. His strength in his body is failing him because of his afflictions; his eyes are weak with sorrow; grief and anguish have caused his bones to grow weak; his enemies seek to take his life; his friends have deserted him as if he was dead; he hears many talk against him. Although David feels terror on every side, he prays to his God in faith, knowing his life is in God’s hands and that he can trust his unfailing love.

It appears in this life we will all suffer weakness, distress, and brokenness.  We must pray to our God who loves us and is faithful to give us the grace to endure to the end and we shall be saved. Our Lord and Savior has prepared a new home and a new glorious body for all who receive him. There, we will never suffer from sin or sickness any more! Thanks be to God!

Our Prayer

Father, we ask for your face to shine on us as your servants and save us in your unfailing love from all our enemies and distresses. We desire to bring glory and honor to you and to fully trust you in all things. We ask in Jesus’ name, amen.
