Hebrews 10: 4-10
… because it is impossible for the blood of bulls and goats to take away sins.
Therefore, when Christ came into the world he said:
“Sacrifice and offering you did not desire, but a body you prepared for me; with burnt offerings and sin offerings you were not pleased. Then I said, ‘Here I am—it is written about me in the scroll—I have come to do your will, O God.’ ”
First he said, “Sacrifices and offerings, burnt offerings and sin offerings you did not desire, nor were you pleased with them.” (although the law required them to be made). Then he said, “Here I am, I have come to do your will.” He sets aside the first to establish the second. And by that will, we have been made holy through the sacrifice of the body Jesus Christ once and for all.
A Thought
The law was imperfect; it was only a shadow of the perfect sacrifice that was to come to take away sins once and for all peoples. Jesus Christ knew the written word found in the scrolls was written about him. The law demanded sacrifice of the blood of animals to cover the judgement for sins to be repeated every year. It was only by the perfect blood sacrifice of the body of Jesus Christ was the payment of sin made possible. The requirement for the sacrifices of animals was set aside when the perfect sacrifice was established in Christ. If we will believe in faith in this perfect sacrifice, we can be made holy in him.
Our Prayer
Father thank you for giving each of us a measure of faith to believe in the perfect sacrifice of your Son for our forgiveness of sins. Awaken us with the power of your Holy Spirit that we will receive the truth of your Word to increase our faith and grow in the likeness, righteousness of Jesus Christ. In his name, we prayer, amen.
