1 John 3: 16-20
This is how we know what love is: Jesus laid down his life for us. And we are to lay down our lives for our brothers. If anyone has material possessions and sees his brother in need but has no pity on him, how can the love of God be in him? Dear children, let us not love with words or tongue but with actions and in truth. This then is how we know that we belong to the truth, and how we set our hearts at rest in his presence when our hearts condemn us. For God is greater than our hearts, and he knows everything.
A Thought
God desires that we have love for everyone; we do not love the sin in their lives but we do love the person. I have heard it said that how we show love to the person that we think the least of is how much we really love God who created everyone for his purpose. Something to consider. Are we guilty of just telling someone that we hope it gets better for them or perhaps we will pray for them and not put our faith in action to help them with our own resources? Love and righteousness is our outward show to the world that we belong to Christ. If the world is to see Christ in action, it will be seen in our actions of love toward them.
Our Prayer
Father search my heart; fill my heart with joyful love for you and for others. Help me to show the same love that you have shown to me to all those around me. Cover my sins with your love and forgiveness. Help me to let go of the possessions you have placed in my care to show your love to others. We ask in Jesus’ name, amen.
