1 John 5: 1-6
Everyone who declares that Jesus is the Christ is born of God, and everyone who loves the Father loves his child as well. This is how we know that we love the children of God: by loving God and carrying out his commands. And his commands are not burdensome, for everyone born of God overcomes the world. This is the victory that has overcome the world, even our faith. Who is it that overcomes the world? Only he that believes that Jesus is the Son of God.
This is the one who came by water and blood–Jesus Christ. He did not come by water only, but by water and blood. And it is the Spirit who testifies, the Spirit is the truth. For there are three that testify: the Spirit, the water and the blood; and the three are in agreement.
A Thought
Jesus Christ who came into the world by water and shed his blood was able to overcome the sin of the world. The Spirit of Truth testifies in agreement together with the water and the blood that Jesus Christ is the Son of God. By receiving in faith that Jesus Christ is the Son of God, we have the victory to overcome the world, to carry out God’s commands, to love God and to love one another. If we love God we will keep his commands and the world will know our testimony of Christ by our love for them and each other.
Our Prayer
Father thank you for the gift of your Son Jesus the Christ–born of a woman, shed his blood on a cross and sent the Spirit to empower us to obey your commands as we overcome the sin of this world. We in faith believe that Jesus Christ is your Son. We praise you in Jesus’ name, amen.
