Romans 8: 22-27
We know that the whole creation has been groaning as in the pains of childbirth right up to the present time. Not only so, but we ourselves, who have the firstfruits of the Spirit, groan inwardly as we wait eagerly for our adoption as sons, the redemption of our bodies. For in this hope we were saved. But hope that is seen is no hope at all. Who hopes for what he already has? But if we hope for what we do not yet have, we wait for it patiently.
In the same way, the Spirit helps us in our weakness. We do not know what we ought to pray for, but the Spirit itself intercedes for us with groans that words cannot express. And he who searches our hearts knows the mind of the Spirit, because the Spirit intercedes for the saints in accordance with God’s will.
A Thought
We who have received the firstfruits of the Spirit have accepted the love and grace of the Father who in his mercy gave his Son Jesus Christ to suffer the pains of our new birth in Him. When we surrendered our life to Christ, the Spirit of God came and now lives within us as our hope that the same Spirit that raised Jesus from the dead will raise us to full redemption of our body to everlasting life. We who have this hope within us, must wait patiently as the Spirit teaches us to overcome our weaknesses. The Spirit searches our hearts and intervenes on our behalf with groans when we do not know how to express our needs with words to pray in accordance with God’s will.
Our Prayer
Father thank you for our hope of salvation of eternal life with you and the gift of your Holy Spirit to teach us how to live godly lives. We ask that your Spirit lead us to your Son and your Son lead us in his righteousness in accordance with your will for our lives to honor you, in Jesus’ name, amen.
