Mark 3: 23-35
So Jesus called them and spoke to them in parables: “How can Satan drive out Satan? If a kingdom is divided against itself, that kingdom cannot stand. If a house is divided against itself, that house cannot stand. And if Satan opposes himself and is divided, he cannot stand; his end has come. In fact no one can enter a strong man’s house and carry off his possessions unless he first ties up the strong man. Then he can rob his house. I tell you the truth, all the sins and blasphemies of men will be forgiven them. But whoever blasphemies against the Holy Spirit will never be forgiven; for he is guilty of an eternal sin.”
He said this because they were saying, “He has an evil spirit.”
Then Jesus’ mother and brothers arrived. Standing outside, they sent someone to call him. A crowd was sitting around him, and they told him, “Your mother and brothers are outside looking for you.”
“Who are my mother and my brothers?” he asked.
Then he looked at those seated in a circle around him and said, “Here are my mother and my brothers! Whoever does God’s will is my brother and sister and mother.”
A Thought
The teachers of the law were trying to say that the power that Jesus’ had to do the miracles and healings was not from the Holy Spirit but was from Satan. When they were saying that Jesus had an evil spirit, Jesus told them that they could be forgiven from all sin and insults except whoever speaks insults or slander against the Holy Spirit which is an eternal sin will never be forgiven. The Holy Spirit has the power to convect mankind of their sin and draw them to repentance which is only found in Jesus Christ whose blood has made reconciliation back to the Father possible. If we continue to reject the Holy Spirit’s leading, we will be eternally separated from God. If we do God’s will we are brothers and sisters and mothers to Jesus the Christ.
Our Prayer
Father thank you for giving your Son to pay the price for our sins. Thank you for sending the Holy Spirit to draw us to Jesus who will forgive all our sins. We no longer want to be separated from you because of our sin. We desire to eternally be in unity as part of your family. We ask that you send your Spirit to lead us into all truth that we may be filled with your love and grace, in Jesus’ name, amen.
