Mark 5: 21-34

When again Jesus has crossed over by boat to the other side of the lake, a large crowd gathered around him while he was by the lake. Then one of the synagogue rulers, named Jairus, came there. Seeing Jesus, he fell at his feet and pleaded earnestly with him, “My little daughter is dying. Please come and put your hands on her so that she will be healed and live.” So Jesus went with him.

A large crowd followed and pressed around him. And a woman was there who had been subject to bleeding for twelve years. She had suffered a great deal under the care of many doctors and had spent all she had, yet instead of getting better she grew worse. When she heard about Jesus, she came up behind him in the crowd and touched his clock, because she thought, “If I just touch his clothes, I will be healed.” Immediately her bleeding stopped and she felt in her body that she was free from her suffering.

At once Jesus realized that power had gone out from him. He turned around in the crowd and asked, “Who touched my clothes?”

“You see the people crowding against you,” his disciples answered, “and yet you can ask, “Who touched me?”

But Jesus kept looking around to see who had done it. Then the woman, knowing what had happened to her, came and fell at his feet and, trembling with fear, told him the truth. He said to her, “Daughter, your faith has healed you. Go in peace and be freed from your suffering.”

A Thought

This woman knew what it meant to suffer for twelve years. She had spent all of her resources to try to receive healing, but continued to get worse. Then she heard about Jesus. Perhaps you have tried on your own to receive relief from a situation that there is no way to receive healing. The woman had faith to believe that if she could only touch Jesus, she would be healed. This is our hope to receive whatever we need from Jesus. We must read and accept God’s Word as truth in order to increase our faith to believe that Jesus died for each of us because of the love of the Father that we could be set free from all seemingly impossible situations. We can bow down in full submission to God through his Son while asking the Holy Spirit to give us the words to speak in faith, believing that God will supply whatever our need. We must accept whatever God’s answer will be for our situation. Sometimes God with will: Heal us immediately from our suffering; Give us the strength to walk through our problem while He reveals to us what we need to do; Give us the power to forgive others as God forgives us; Give us an answer that we had not even considered; Work to change our situation by working to change others that may be involved. We must never give up and know that God is faithfully at work for our good when we submit our lives completely into his control. God is faithful, filled with compassion for all who will trust him. Receive his love, mercy, peace, healing and be set free in Jesus’ name, amen.
