1 Kings 19: 4-8

While Jezebel was killing off all the Lord’s prophets, Obadiah had taken a hundred prophets and hidden them in two caves, fifty in each, and had supplied them with food and water.) Ahab had said to Obadiah, “Go to the land to all the springs and valleys. Maybe we can find some grass to keep the horses and mules alive so we will not have to kill any of our animals.” So they divided the land they were to cover, Ahab going in one direction and Obadiah in another.

As Obadiah was walking along, Elijah met him. Obadiah recognized him, bowed down to the ground, and said, “Is it really you, my lord?”

“Yes,” he replied. “Go tell your master, Elijah is here.’ ”

A Thought

When the evil king of Israel Omri had died, his son Ahab became king. Ahab continued to do even more evil so the Lord’s prophet Elijah  foretold to Ahab that there would be no rain for the next few years. God provided food and water for Elijah for the next three years of drought. First he was feed by the ravens and he was feed by a widow whose jar of flour and the jug of oil never became empty until the Lord gave rain on the land. Ahab’s wife, Jezebel, was now killing off all of the Lord’s prophets in search of Elijah because of the serve drought.

Our Prayer

Father thank you that you protected and provided for your prophet Elijah who spoke the hard word that you had given to him for the evil king Ahab. We ask in the name of Jesus that faith arise in our hearts that we will speak the truth of your word without fear to give warning to others who have lost their way and do not believe in you.
