1 Kings 3: 10-14

The Lord was pleased that Solomon had asked for this. So God said to him, “Since you have asked for this and not for long life or wealth for yourself, nor have asked for the death of your enemies but for discernment in administering justice, I will do what you have asked. I will give you a wise and discerning heart, so that there will never have been anyone like you, nor will there ever be. Moreover, I will give you what you have not asked for–both riches and honor–so that in your lifetime you will have no equal among kings. And if you walk in my ways and obey my statues and commands as David your father did, I will give you a long life.””

A Thought

Since Solomon’s had asked God to give him discernment to be able to know how to govern his great people, God gave him a wise and discerning heart to bring justice like no one had ever accomplished before. God also gave him what things he would not ask for–riches, honor and a long life if Solomon would always walk and obey God’s statues. When we put God and others before ourselves, God will give us all we need to accomplish great things.

Our Prayer

Father forgive us for centering our lives around things that separate us from you. We ask for a heart to see your will in our lives and the strength to put you first and others second that we may have your wisdom and joy working to make us more like Christ by walking in obedience to your Word. We ask in Jesus’ name, amen.
