John 6: 51-58
“This bread is my flesh, which I will give for the life of the world.”
Then the Jews began to argue sharply among themselves, “How can this man give us his flesh to eat?”
Jesus said to them, “I tell you the truth, unless you eat the flesh of the Son of Man and drink his blood, you have no life in you. Whoever eats my flesh and drinks my blood has eternal life, and I will raise him up the last day. For my flesh is real food and my blood is real drink. Whoever eats my flesh and drinks my blood remains in me, and I in him. Just as the living Father sent me and I live because of the Father, so the one who feeds on me will live because of me. This is the bread that came down from heaven. Your forefathers ate manna and died, but he who feeds on this bread will live forever.”
A Thought
God gave his children manna in the wilderness daily to supply their need to live day by day. Jesus now explains to the Jewish people that he is the bread of life that the living Father sent down from heaven to give life eternal to whoever (all people not Jews only) eats his flesh and drinks his blood. Points to consider: Bread temporarily sustains life. The wages of sin (disobedience to God) is death. The Father sent his Son in human form with flesh and blood to redeem the world from sin and death. Jesus who knew no sin was made the perfect blood sacrifice to pay our penalty of sin. When we receive his flesh and blood and remain in Him, Jesus remains in us and He is our true course of Spiritual life. Jesus will raise us up on the last day because Jesus gave His life for the world to receive eternal life.
Our Prayer
Living Father thank you for your wisdom to discern the Scriptures to understand your love and mercy for us. We receive your Son’s perfect sacrifice of his flesh and blood to set us free from the law of sin and death. We desire to feed on Christ and live to glorify you. We now ask for your Holy Spirit to guide us daily to remain in Christ so He will remain in us in Jesus’ name, amen.
