1 Kings 8: 14-15

“Now fear the Lord and serve him with all faithfulness. Throw away the gods your forefathers worshipped beyond the River and in Egypt, and serve the Lord. But if seeing the Lord seems undesirable to you, then choose for yourselves this day whom you will serve, whether the gods your forefathers served beyond the River, or the gods of the Amorites, in whose land you are living. But as for me and my household, we will serve the Lord.”

A Thought

Joshua assembled all the tribes of Israel together before his death with God’s message to them reminding them the things God had done for their forefathers. God had taken Abraham away from the land beyond the River where they had worshiped other gods and brought him to the land of Canaan and blessed him with many descendants. God sent Moses and Aaron to delivery them out of the hand of the Egyptians. After living in the desert for a long time, God brought them to the land of the Amorites and gave them the land. God delivered their forefathers and blessed them. Then you crossed the River Jordan and came to Jericho where God fought your battles and gave you land flowing with vineyards and olive groves where you did not toil. Now Joshua tells them each must choose to serve God with faithfulness and throw away all their idols or serve the gods of the Amorites. Joshua makes it known that he and his house will serve the Lord! Each day we must choose in whom we will serve–the gods of this world or the true and living God. As for me and my house, we choose to serve the God of love, mercy and grace given through his Son, Jesus the Christ by the power of his Holy Spirit.

Our Prayer

Holy Father thank you for revealing your great love and mercy to all who will choose to follow you. We ask that you continue to be merciful ti your people of Israel and to all who have chosen to follow you, in Jesus’ name, amen.
