James 4: 1-4

What causes fights and quarrels among you? Don’t they come from your desires that battle within you? You want something but don’t get it.  You kill and covet, but you cannot have what you want. You quarrel and fight. You do not have, because you do not ask God. When you ask, you do not receive, because you ask with wrong motives, that you may spend what you get on your pleasures.

You adulterous people, don’t you know that friendship with the world is hatred toward God?  Anyone who choses to be a friend of the world becomes the enemy of God.

A Thought

Have you ever considered why there is so much fighting and unrest in the world today?  In todays Scripture James makes the answer very simple and clear.  We fight when we do not get the things we want!  God wants us to know if we get our motives for wanting something right, we can ask him for it and he will give it to us. So, what is our problem? Most of the time we ask for things simply for our own pleasure.

Our Prayer

Father, please help us to be humble and give us the grace to change to where we are more concerned for the needs of others and less concerned about our own selfish pleasures. In Jesus’ name we ask, amen.
