Mark 9: 33-37

They came to Capernaum. When he was in the house, he asked them, “What were you arguing about on the road?” But they kept quiet because on the way they had argued about who was the greatest.

Sitting down, Jesus called the Twelve and said, “If anyone wants to be first, he must be the very last, and the servant of all.”

He took a little child and had him stand among them. Taking him in his arms, he said to them, “Whoever welcomes one of these little children in my name welcomes me; and whoever welcomes me does not welcome me but the one who sent me.”

A Thought

All week we have heard how we can live a good life.  In today’s Scripture Jesus tells his disciples, along with us, that true greatness will come in humility of service to others. Yes, Jesus wants us to be a servant. If we put ourself last, he will make us first. Jesus desires that we lead children into his kingdom.

Our Prayer

Father, thank you for showing us the true gift of greatness that only comes in humility toward you and others. Help us to show children the way to you is only through your son. We desire to be your servant in Jesus’ name, Amen.
