Hebrews 7: 23-28
Now there have been many of those priests, since death prevented them from continuing in office; but because Jesus lives forever, he has a permanent priesthood. Therefore he is able to save completely those who come to God through him, because he always lives to intercede for them. Such a high priest meets our need – one who is holy, blameless, pure, set apart from sinners, exalted above the heavens. Unlike the other priests, he does not need to offer sacrifices day after day, first for his own sins, and then for the sins for the sins of the people. He sacrificed for their sins once for all when he offered himself. For the law appoints as high priests men who are weak; but the oath, which came after the law, appointed the Son, who has been made perfect forever.
A Thought
Sin carries the price of judgement. We have all sinned and deserve death. God’s word teaches us without the shedding of blood there is no remission (forgiveness) of sin. The priests of old would offer blood sacrifices for first his own sins and then for the sins others. This was only a temporary cleaning of sin that had to be repeated over and over. Because of God’s love for us, Jesus, the Son of God, was born to a virgin here on earth. Jesus lived a sinless life, but died a sinner’s death. Jesus was resurrected back to life, now sits at the right hand of God the Father. Jesus now intercedes for all who will confess and believe in him. God wants each of us to be in a personal relationship with him. This is now made possible because Jesus is now our perfect high priest.
Our Prayer
Thank you for your love for each of us. Help each of us to show your love and intercede for others in the same way Jesus did for us. Thank you for the perfect sacrifice of Jesus. Help us to be set apart from the world and show your light to others. We ask in Jesus’ name. Amen.
