Luke 21: 34-36

“Be careful, or your hearts will be weighted down with dissipation, drunkenness and the anxieties of life, and that day will close on you unexpectedly like a trap. For it will come upon all those who live on the whole earth. Be always on the watch, and pray that you may be able to escape all that is about to happen, and that you may be able to stand before the Son of Man.”

A Thought

Jesus is preparing his followers about how to live their lives after he has left them. He first tells them that the Son of Man will return and that they must be aware of over endulgences, drunkenness, and the anxieties of life. The only way to escape these traps is to always watch and pray. All on the face of the earth will stand before God.

We on earth today are seeing many devastating occurrences — the breakdown of families, the lack of unity in our government and churches, fires destroying lives and homes, extreme weather conditions, lack of respect for authority and just a general breakdown of what is good and right. It is time for all of us to watch and pray for our whole nation, our families, our church, our community, and for our own personal walk with Christ. There are many traps all around each of us. Watch and pray because Christ is coming again and we all will answer to him for the things we have done and what things we have not done.

Our Prayer

Father draw each of us by the power of your Holy Spirit to accept the blood of your son to cleanse us from all sin and unrighteousness; then, help us to live our lives separate from the way of the world and not to be weighted down by the cares of this world. Prepare us to stand on your promises of eternal life and be ready for the return of Christ. In Jesus’ name. Amen.
