Luke 2: 1-7
In those days Caesar Augustus issued a decree that a census should be taken of the entire Roman world. (This was the first census that took place while Quirinius was governor of Syria.) And everyone went to his own town to register.
So Joseph also went up from the town of Nazareth in Galilee to Judea, to Bethlehem the town of David, because he belonged to the house and line of David. He went there to register with Mary, who was pledged to be married to him and was expecting a child. While they were there, the time came for the baby to be born, and she gave birth to her firstborn, a son. She wrapped him in cloths and placed him in a manger, because there was no room for them in the inn.
A Thought
The prophet Isaiah had foretold that a virgin would give birth to a child in the town of Bethlehem. Hundreds of years later, we find a young virgin, Mary and her husband to be, Joseph. They had just completed approximately a one hundred mile journey from Nazareth, on foot or either on a donkey, now in a stable where Mary is giving birth to the Son of God, Jesus our Savior. There was no room for them in the inn. Do you have room for Jesus the Son of God, our Savior, in your heart today?
Our Prayer
Father thank you for giving us your only begotten son to be our hope of eternal life with you. Not because we deserve to have a relationship with you but simply the fact you love us that much. Help us to live our lives for your glory and honor. Help us to share this Savior with all that we meet. In Jesus name. Amen.
