Galatians 5: 17-25

For the sinful nature desires what is contrary to the Spirit, and the Spirit what is contrary to the sinful nature. They are in conflict with each other, so that you do not do what you want. But if you are led by the Spirit, you are not under the law.

The acts of the sinful nature are obvious: sexual immorality, impurity and debauchery; idolatry and witchcraft; hatred, discord, jealously, fits of rage, selfish ambition, dissensions, factions and envy; drunkenness, orgies, and the like. I warn you, as I did before, that those who live like this will not inherit the kingdom of God.

But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness and self-control. Against such things there is no law. Those who belong to Christ Jesus have crucified the sinful nature with its passions and desires.

A Thought

Today is the perfect time for each of us to consider what the sinful nature of man is without Christ and what the end result it will produce. If we are to inherit the kingdom of God, we must live our lives in the Spirit which will produce good fruit: love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, and self-control. When we receive Jesus Christ he gives us his Spirit to lead us into all truth. It must be our choice to produce good fruit in our lives.

Our Prayer

Father thank you for the gift of salvation through your son Jesus Christ and giving us your Spirit that we no longer have to fulfill the desires of sinful flesh. We can now follow you, inherit your kingdom and live eternally with you. Help each of us to receive purpose and direction to produce good fruit. In Jesus’ name. Amen.
