Jeremiah 17: 5-10
This is what the Lord says:
“Cursed is the man who trusts in man, who depends on man for his strength and whose heart turns away from the Lord. He will be like a bush in the wastelands; he will not see prosperity when it comes. He will dwell in the parched places of the desert, in a salt land where no one lives.
“But blessed is the man who trusts in the Lord, whose confidence is in Him. He will be like a tree planted by the water that sends out its roots by the stream. It does not fear when heat comes; its leaves are always green. It has no worries in a year of drought and never fails to bear fruit.”
The heart is deceitful above all things and beyond cure. Who can understand it?
“I the Lord search the heart and examine the mind, to reward a man according to his conduct, according to what his deeds deserve.”
A Thought
God is speaking through Jeremiah to the people of Judah about how their heart deceived them to sin; therefore, they will lose their inheritance that God had given to them. The people had turned away from the Lord and placed their trust in themselves for their strength. God gives a warning to all that the heart is deceitful and He searches our heart and examines our minds and that we will be judged according to our conduct and deeds. If we will place our trust and confidence in our God, we will have no need to worry or fear. We will bear fruit and will be rewarded.
Our Prayer
Father God, you are our only hope. You are our Shepherd and worthy of our praise. Thank you for giving us your Son that we might receive your forgiveness. Heal us, O Lord, and we will be healed. Save us, O Lord, and we will be saved. We ask in Jesus’ name. Amen.
