Luke 13: 31-35
At that time some Pharisees came to Jesus and said to him, “Leave this place and go somewhere else. Herod wants to kill you.”
He replied, “Go tell that fox, ‘I will drive out demons and heal people today and tomorrow, and on the third day I will reach my goal. In any case, I must keep going today and tomorrow and the next day–for surely no prophet can die outside of Jerusalem!
“O Jerusalem, Jerusalem, you who kill the prophets and stone those sent to you, how often I have longed to gather your children together, as a hen gathers her chicks under her wings, but you were not willing! Look, your house is left to you desolate. I tell you, you will not see me again until you say, ‘Blessed is he who comes in the name of the Lord.’ “
A Thought
Do you sense the pain in Jesus as he knows that in three days that he will have fulfilled all and then He will face the death of the cross? The pain was not in knowing the pain of death, but rather the pain for Jerusalem knowing they had not received him as their Savior and had killed the prophets who had been sent before him. When Jesus received the message that Herod wanted to kill him, Jesus replied that he will continue to cast out demons and healing for two days and on the third day he will reach his goal–the cross.
Our Prayer
Father help us to receive your Son as our Savior and to pray for the salvation of your people of Israel. Thank you that Jesus will return to gather all your children to be with you forever in heaven. We ask in Jesus’ name, amen.
