Psalm 63: 1-8

O God, you are my God, earnestly I seek you; my soul thirsts for you, my body longs for you, in a dry and weary land where there is no water.

I have seen you in the sanctuary and beheld your power and glory. Because your love is better than life, my lips will glorify you. I will praise you as long as I live, and in your name I will lift up my hands. My soul will be satisfied as with the riches of foods; with singing lips my mouth will praise you.

On my bed I remember you; I think of you through the watches of night. Because you are my help, I sing in the shadow of your wings. My soul clings to you; your right hand upholds me.

A Thought

At different times in our lives we will need to trust God to deliver us from those who might try to harm us. We can learn to trust God when we are in dry places. David is now in the desert where perhaps he is escaping from his enemies. David remembers the times that he has seen the power and glory of God. David is singing praise to God knowing his soul will be satisfied with riches even in a dry and weary land. On the nights when you are troubled and can’t sleep, try earnestly seeking, remembering, and praising God your Savior.

Our Prayer

Father God thank you that you refresh us in your Spirit when we have grown weary and dry. Overflow our soul with your love, joy and power. Help us to come to you with singing, and praising your holy name remembering that you are the one who takes us under the shadow of your wings. We ask in Jesus’ name, amen.
