Luke 15: 3-7
Then Jesus told them this parable: “Suppose one of you has a hundred sheep and loses one of them. Does he not leave the ninety-nine in the open country and go after the lost sheep until he finds it? And when he finds it, he joyfully puts it on his shoulders and goes home. Then he calls his friends and neighbors together and says, ‘Rejoice with me; I have found my lost sheep.’ I tell you that in the same way there will be rejoicing in heaven over one sinner who repents than over ninety-nine righteous persons who do not need to repent.
A Thought
Jesus spoke to the people in parables trying to tell them about heavenly things using examples they could relate with. Here Jesus wants the tax collectors and “sinners” to understand that they need to repent. Sheep are totally dependent on their shepard to protect and take care of them. If the shepard does not leave and find the lost one, the life of the sheep will be worthlessly lost. The shepard rejoices when the lost sheep is found. Jesus wants us to know that all of heaven rejoices when we repent and follow him.
Our Prayer
Father thank you for sending Jesus to earth from all the comforts of heaven to rescue us from sin. We rejoice with the angels in heaven knowing that our sins are forgiven. Help us to lead others to find forgiveness in you. We ask in Jesus’ name, amen.
