Psalms 31: 9-16, 24
Be merciful to me, O Lord, for I am in distress; my eyes grow weak with sorrow, my soul and my body with grief. My life is consumed by anguish and my years by groaning; my strength fails because of my affliction, and my bones grow weak. Because of all my enemies, I am the utter contempt of my neighbors; I am dread to my friends–those who see me on the street flee from me. I am forgotten by them as thought I were dead; I have become like broken pottery. For I hear the slander of many; there is terror on every side; they conspire against me and plot to take my life.
But I trust in you, Lord; I say, “You are my God.” My times are in your hands; deliver me from my enemies and from those who pursue me. Let your face shine on your servant; save me in your unfailing love.
Be strong and take heart, all you who hope in the Lord.
A Thought
Facing the many sorrows of his life in distress, in grief, in pain, David puts his faith and trust in God to deliver him from his enemies. David compares his life with broken pottery. Everyone feels pain throughout their life, perhaps the same that David was feeling. We must remember to do the same thing that David did–cry out to God in trust knowing God’s great unfailing love and protection. Be strong and keep your hope alive.
Our Prayer
Father forgive us when we fail to be strong and completely trust in you. Help us to be your servant and to trust your unfailing love. You have given us your Son Christ Jesus and the power of the Holy Spirit to equip us when we go through grief, sickness, and brokenness. Help us to always be in prayer about everything and praise your holy name. Thank you for our hope in Jesus’ name, amen.
