Psalm 23

The Lord is my shepherd, I shall not be in want. He makes me to lie down in green pastures, he leads me beside quiet waters, he restores my soul. He guides me in paths of righteousness for his name sake. Even though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I will fear no evil, for you are with me; your rod and your staff they comfort me.

You prepare a table before me in the presence of my enemies. You anoint my head with oil; my cup overflows. Surely goodness and love will follow me all the days of my life, and I will dwell in the house of the Lord forever.

A Thought

This is such a great comparison of David who is a shepherd boy protecting his sheep with the Lord as his Shepherd and David as one of the sheep. With the Lord we are lead into the green pastures by quiet waters where there is no want. We are lead in paths of righteousness even where there is darkness. We have no fear of evil because God is protecting and comforting us by his rod and staff. We can be at peace anointed by the oil of the Holy Spirit even in the presence of enemies. Goodness and love will be with us always and we can have faith to believe we will dwell with the Lord in his house forever.

Our Prayer

Father thank you for making every provision for our life now and throughout all eternity to dwell with you. Help us to be filled with you Spirit of goodness, love, and service to you and others. we ask in Jesus’ name, amen.
