Acts 2: 12-21
Amazed and perplexed, they asked one another, “What does this mean?”
Some, however, made fun of them and said, “They have had too much to drink.”
Then Peter stood up with the Eleven, raised his voice and addressed the crowd: “Fellow Jews and all of you who live in Jerusalem, let me explain this yo you; listen carefully to what I say.” These men are not drunk as you suppose. It’s only nine in the morning! No, this is what was spoken by the prophet Joel:
” ‘In the last days, God says, I will pour out my Spirit on all people. Your sons and daughters will prophesy, your young men will see visions, your old men will dream dreams. Even on my servants, both men and women, I will pour out my Spirit in those days, and they will prophesy. I will show wonders in the heaven above and signs on the earth below, blood and fire and billows of smoke. The sun will be turned to darkness and the moon to blood before the coming of the great and glorious day of the Lord. And everyone who calls on the name of the Lord will be saved.’
A Thought
What a great change that has taken place in Peter since the power of the Holy Spirit has entered him. Peter has changed from denying that he knew Jesus three times to now boldly speaking before a large crowd of Jews about the prophecy of Joel. The Spirit of God has come to earth available to all people then and still is here now. John Wesley and many other leaders of his day along with the churches were experiencing the power of the Spirit in a mighty way. In my life I experienced a mighty move of God in the early 1970’s. In resent years there was a mighty move of God in Pensacola, Florida that lasted everyday for years. Today we are seeing many wonders happening in the heaven and on the earth with weather conditions, earthquakes, and eclipse of the sun and moon. NASA called the last several moon eclipse red or blood moons. We still live in a time that if we will call on the name of the Lord, he will save us. Jesus is coming soon.
Our Prayer
Father thank you that our redemption draws nearer. Help us to listen to what the Spirit is saying through the prophet Joel and the Apostle Peter and not to be amazed and perplexed over the things happening today. Thank you that your Holy Spirit is still at work in the earth today drawing men and women into a relationship with you through your Son. We ask that you awaken your church to be your disciples and to make disciples through love and forgiveness in Jesus’ name, amen.
