Romans 8: 12-17
Therefore, brothers, we have an obligation–but it is not to the sinful nature, to live according to it. For if you live according to the sinful nature, you will die; but if by the Spirit you put to death the misdeeds of the body, you will live, because those who are led by the Spirit of God are the sons of God. For you did not receive a spirit that makes you a slave again to fear, but you received the Spirit of sonship. And by him we cry, “Abba, Father.” The Spirit himself testifies with our spirit that we are God’s children. Now if we are children, then we are heirs–heirs of God and co-heirs with Christ, if indeed we share in his sufferings in order that we may also share in his glory.
A Thought
If we are obedient to the Spirit, we will do good deeds and live. We will no longer be a slave to fear but will become heirs of God and co-heirs with Christ. We must learn to walk in the Spirit and not be a slave to our flesh. If we share in the sufferings of Christ, we will also share in his glory.
Our Prayer
Abba, Father our hope is in you. Thank you for the Holy Spirit that gives us liberty in you. We do not have to be in bondage to sin. Help us to fulfill our obligation to be your children and endure the pains and trails of this life without fear. We ask in Jesus’ name, amen.
