John 14: 23-27
Jesus replied, “If anyone loves me, he will obey my teaching. My Father will love him, and we will come to him and make our home with him. He who does not love me will not obey my teaching. These words you hear are not my own; they belong to the Father who sent me.
“All this I have spoken while still with you. But the Counselor, the Holy Spirit, whom the Father will send in my name, will teach you all things and will remind you of everything I have said to you.
Peace I leave with you; my peace I give you. I do not give to you as the world gives. Do not let your hearts be troubled and do not be afraid.
A Thought
Jesus is giving his disciples one of his last teachings: Anyone who loves me, will obey my teachings. Jesus encourages them that even though he is leaving them, they do not have to be afraid or troubled because the Father will send the Holy Spirit to comfort, teach, and remind them of all things he has said. This same Spirit is still here within us today. If we will submit to the Spirit, we will also be comforted, strengthened, and filled with love and mercy. If we love God, we will obey his teachings.
Our Prayer
Father thank you that we can live in peace regardless of what in happening in our world today. We can become your disciples and have your Spirit living in us. Thank you that we do not have to be troubled or live in fear. Help us to love and obey your teachings. We ask in Jesus’ name, amen.
