Psalm 14

The fool says in his heart, “There is no God.” They are corrupt, their deeds are vile; there is no one who does good.

The Lord looks down from heaven on the sons of men to see if there are any who understand, any who seek God. All have turned aside, they have together become corrupt; there is no one who does good, not even one.

Will evildoers never learn–those who devour my people as men eat bread and do not call on the Lord? There they are overwhelmed with dread, for God is present in the company of the righteous. You evildoers frustrate the plans of the poor, but the Lord is their refuge.

Oh, that salvation for Israel would come out of Zion! When the Lord restores the fortunes of his people, let Jacob rejoice and Israel be glad!

A Thought

In this passage we get a clear picture of anyone who says there is no God: They are corrupt, deeds are evil, do not seek God, never learn, try to harm others, and try to frustrate the poor. They are very foolish.

God is with those who seek him; God is the refuge for the poor. Yes, God has brought salvation out of Zion. God will restore the fortunes of his people and Israel will rejoice and be glad. Do you believe in God? Then do good, rejoice and be glad!

Our Prayer

Father thank you for redeeming us from our foolish ways. Help us to do good, to plead the cause of the poor, and rejoice and be glad in you! We ask in Jesus’ name, amen.
