Luke 15: 8-10
“Or suppose a woman has ten silver coins and loses one. Does she not light a lamp, sweep. the house and search carefully until she finds it? And when she finds it, she calls her friends and neighbors together and says, ‘Rejoice with me; I have found my lost coin.’ In the same way, I tell you, there is rejoicing in the presence of the angels of God over one sinner who repents.”
A Thought
It was customary for a Palestinian woman to receive a wedding gift from her family of ten silver coins. These silver coins were worth more than just monetary value; they held a sentimental value much like a woman’s wedding ring of today. So we can understand the anguish of losing one of the coins and also the jubilation of finding the one that was lost. More importantly, what we need to understand is how much love and mercy God showed for his disobedient children when he sent his son to reclaim all who were lost. God along with his angels rejoice over one sinner who repents.
Our Prayer
Father we rejoice in you for giving your disobedient children the opportunity to repent and be brought back in a loving relationship with you as our Father. Help us to be obedient to you, to love and to seek those who are lost in their sins, and to speak your word of truth that they may know, receive your love and mercy. We ask in Jesus’ name, amen.
