1 Timothy 2: 1-7
I urge, then, first of all, that requests, prayers, intercession and thanksgiving be made for everyone–for kings and all those in authority, that we may live peaceful and quiet lives In all godliness and holiness. This is good, and pleases God our Savior, who wants all men to be saved and come to the knowledge of the truth. For there is one God and one mediator between God and men, the man Christ Jesus, who gave himself as a ransom for all men–the testimony given in its proper time. And for this purpose I was appointed a herald and an apostle–I am telling the truth, I am not lying–and a teacher of the true faith to the Gentiles.
A Thought
Paul had started the church at Ephesus and now he is encouraging Timothy to teach the good news of Christ in truth, to guard against false teachers, and to establish the role of the church. Paul urges first the importance of prayer; that all should please God by giving of thanks and to intercede for everyone to live peaceful and quiet lives together with godliness and holiness. The way to God is now made possible through the one who gave himself as a ransom for all men, including the Gentiles. This mediator is now made known to be Jesus Christ. Paul was appointed to make true faith in Christ Jesus known to the Gentiles. Now we, the church, have been appointed to make this same truth known to the world because God wants all men to be saved.
Our Prayer
Father fill us with your Spirit that we will tell the world that you are the only God and that we have a mediator, Christ Jesus, in whom we have access to you because the ransom of our life was paid by his blood. Help us to trust you in all things. We desire to live quiet, peaceful lives in all godliness and holiness. We pray for our leaders and those in authority that they may come to the knowledge of your truth in Christ Jesus, amen.
