2 Timothy 2: 3-7

Endure hardship with us as a good soldier of Christ Jesus. No one serving as a soldier gets involved in civilian affairs–he wants to please his commanding officer. Similarly, if anyone completes as an athlete, he does not receive the victor’s crown unless he competes according to the rules. The hard-working farmer should be the first to receive a share of the crops. Reflect on what I am saying, for the Lord will give you insight into all this.

A Thought

Paul is writing to Timothy with instructions as to how to be a faithful servant of the Lord Jesus Christ in a time when people are falling away from the truth. Paul compares being well trained as a soldier, an athlete, and a hard working farmer to one who is to receive the victory of serving Christ. God’s word teaches us that in the last days, there will be a falling away. Are you willing to endure hardship in order to serve Christ Jesus?

Our Prayer

Father help each of us to continue in faith to serve you even when it is not comfortable. Help us to put you first in our lives,   to study your word and to faithfully live by its commands. We desire to be hard working and to reap our reward in you. We ask in Jesus’ name, amen.
