2 Timothy 2: 8-15
Remember Jesus Christ, raised from the dead, descended from David. This is my gospel, for which I am suffering even to the point of being chained like a criminal. But God’s word is not chained. Therefore I endure everything for the sake of the elect, that they too may obtain the salvation that is in Christ Jesus, with eternal glory.
Here is a trustworthy saying:
If we died with him, we will also live with him; if we endure, we will also reign with him. If we disown him, he will disown us; if we are faithless, he will remain faithful, for he cannot disown himself.
Keep reminding them of these things. Warn them before God against quarreling about words; it is of no value, and only ruins those who listen. Do your best to present yourself to God as one approved, a workman who does not need to be ashamed and who correctly handles the word of truth.
A Thought
Paul starts by stating to remember the gospel for which he was in prison: Jesus Christ was fully God, raised from the dead, and fully human, descended from David. Even though Paul was in chains, he still preached the gospel of salvation freely. Paul was not concerned about death; he knew that if he remained faithful that God would be faithful to raise him up to reign with him. Paul warns against quarreling. Instead we should focus on being an unashamed workman approved to present the gospel correctly as God’s word of truth.
Our Prayer
Father help us to study your word and not be ashamed to correctly present your word to others who will listen. Help them to receive faith to believe your word as truth and receive your salvation. Help us to remain faithful to you. Forgive us when we argue or quarrel over your word. We ask in Jesus’ name, amen.
