Daniel 7: 1-3, 15-18

In the first year of Belshazzar king of Babylon, Daniel had a dream, and visions passed through his mind as he was lying on his bed. He wrote down the substance of his dream.

Daniel said:  “In my vision at night I looked, and there before me were four winds of heaven churning up the great sea. Four great beasts, each different from the others, came up out of the sea.

“I, Daniel was troubled in spirit, and the visions that passed through my mind disturbed me. I approached one of these standing there and asked him the true meaning of this.

“So he told me and gave me the interpretation of these things:   “The four great beasts are four kingdoms that will rise from the earth. But the saints of the Most High will receive the kingdom and will posses it forever–yes, for ever and ever.’

A Thought

Daniel was a prophet in whom God gave dreams and visions revealing things that were to happen in the future. Some of which were so troubling that he was disturbed in his spirit. The basic message of these unveilings was to give warnings of judgement that will be brought on the earth because of sin. The good news is that God has made a way of escape for all of his people by his love and grace given in Jesus Christ. Eventually the goodness of God will destroy all evil and his truth will prevail for ever and ever.

Our Prayer

Father thank you that we do not have to fear judgement because your son, Jesus Christ, has paid the penalty of our sin. We can repent of our sin and trust you to guide, to teach us to live our lives in obedience to your word by the power of the Holy Spirit that lives within us. Awaken us to joyful service to you and to others. We ask in Jesus’ name, amen.
