Romans 13: 11-14

And do this, understanding the present time. The hour has come for you to wake up from your slumber, because our salvation is nearer now than when we first believed. The night is nearly over; the day is almost here. So let us put aside the deeds of darkness and put on the armor of light. Let us behave decently, as in the daytime, not in orgies and drunkenness, not in sexual immoralities and debauchery, not in dissension and jealousy. Rather, clothe yourselves with the Lord Jesus Christ, and do not think about how to gratify the desires of the sinful nature.

A Thought

We were all born with a sinful nature that makes it impossible to please God unless we become “born again,” as a new person in Christ. What does this mean? Simply put, we must put away the deeds of darkness and turn to the light of Christ made possible by his blood sacrifice for our sins. We must turn away from wild living, drunkenness, jealousy, and all sexual immorality. It is time for all to live in unity, brotherly love, and to be ready to serve Christ and others instead of a live revolved around pleasing ourselves.

Our Prayer

Father we desire to be awakened to the life that you have created for us to live in Christian brotherhood. Help us to be willing to change from our old sinful nature and to be filled with your love centered on your word to become more like Christ. Help our desire to be on service to you and not on our selfish desires of the flesh. Come Holy Spirit, come. We ask in Jesus’ name, amen.
