James 5: 7-10

Be patient, then, brothers, until the Lord’s coming. See how the farmer waits for the land to yield its valuable crop and how patient he is for the autumn and spring rains. You too, be patient and stand firm, because the Lord’s coming is near. Don’t grumble against each other, brothers, or you will be judged. The judge is standing at the door!

Brothers, as an example of patience in the face of suffering, take the prophets who spoke in the name of the Lord.

A Thought

Here James speaks to me to never give up, but to be patient and to stand firm on the promises of God. In the same manner that the farmer patiently works, we must work to prepare for the Kingdom of God for the good of others and ourselves. The farmer prepares the soil and plants the seeds while God in his time provides the rain and the fruit of the garden. As believers in Christ we must take our hearts of stone and make them ready to receive seeds of faith. God will fill us with his Holy Spirit to help us be his witness even in the face of suffering. In our patience and standing firm in his word, God will produce his valuable fruit within us. We must be patient, without grumbling and continue to serve our Lord and Savior, Jesus the Christ. Christ will return. Be ready.

Our Prayer

Father you are faithful. Thank you for our gift of salvation from you. Help us to continue to grow in faith and to prepare for Christ’s soon return. Help us to work patiently without grumbling to bring others to their acceptance of you and your word. Help us to lay up treasures in your kingdom and not to make our kingdom here on earth. We ask inJesus’ name. Amen.
