Romans 1: 1-7

Paul, a servant of Christ Jesus, called to be an apostle and set apart for the gospel of God–the gospel he promised beforehand through his prophets in the Holy Scriptures regarding his Son, who as to his human nature was a decendant of  David, and who through the Spirit of holiness was declared with power to be the Son of God by his resurrection from the dead: Jesus Christ our Lord. Through him and for his name’s sake, we received grace and apostleship to call people from all the Gentiles to the obedience that comes from faith. And you also are among those who are called to belong to Jesus Christ.

To all in Rome who are loved by God and called to be saints:

A Thought

The prophets spoke by the promise of God the Almighty in the Holy Scriptures that his Son would be in human nature a descendant of David with God’s Spirit of holiness. With the power of his resurrection from the dead, Jesus has now become Jesus Christ our Lord when we receive his grace through obedience that come from our faith in him. We have all been called to receive this grace. Have you received yet? This is what Advent is all about–receiving in faith the promised redeemer that will lead us to obedience to the call of God.

Our Prayer

Father our prayer today is that the gift of your promised Son will be received in our world today by the power of your Spirit. Help us to be obedient to you and your word while we watch and pray trusting you. We ask in Jesus’ name, amen.
