Psalm 72: 1-7, 10-14

Endow the king with your justice, O God, the royal son with righteousness. He will judge your people in righteousness, your affected ones with justice. Your mountains will bring prosperity to the people, the hills the fruit of righteousness. He will defend the afflicted among the people and save the children of the needy; he will crush the oppressor.

He will endure as long as the sun, as long as the moon, through all generations. He will be like rain falling on a mown field, like showers watering the earth. In his days the righteous will flourish; prosperity will abound till the moon is no more.

The kings of Tarshish and of distant shores will bring tribute to him; the kings of Sheba and Seba will present him gifts. All kings will bow down to him and all nations will serve him.

For he will deliver the needy who cry out, the afflicted who have no one to help. He will take pity on the weak and the needy and save the needy from death. He will rescue them from from oppression and violence, for precious is their blood in his sight.

A Thought

This is a prayer of David for his son Solomon to be a righteous, just king who will defend the poor and crush the oppressor much like the Messiah when he will be the future King in Zion. As citizens, we should always pray for our leaders that they will have a righteous character that comes from Christ and that we will receive the blessings of our God. As parents we should also always pray for our children to surrender to the teachings of Christ that they may be a blessing to others.

Our Prayer

Father thank you for the gift of prayer. We pray for our Nation and all the leaders around the world that we may live in unity with justice and in righteousness. We pray for all Christians around the world especially those persecuted and oppressed. We prayer for your people of Israel. We prayer for unity in your church and that your complete word will be proclaimed with power that the lost will surrender to you in repentance. We pray for the poor, the orphans and the widows. We pray for our children, grandchildren and all future generations that they will have faith to believe and accept the call you have for them to be your righteous children.  We ask these things in Jesus’ name and for his glory, amen.
