Isaiah 9: 1-4
Nevertheless, there will be no more gloom for those who were in distress. In the past he humbled the land of Zubulun and the land of Naphtali, but in the future he will honor Galilee of the Gentiles, by the way of the sea, along the Jordan–
The people walking in darkness have seen a great light; on those living in the land of the shadow of death a light has dawned. You have enlarged the nation and increased their joy; they rejoice before you as people rejoice at the harvest, as men rejoice when dividing the plunder. For in the day of Midian’s defeat, you have shattered the yoke that burdens them, the bar across their shoulders, the rod of their oppressor.
A Thought
Although the captivity of darkness and gloom now exists, Isaiah offers the promise of hope to all who will remain faithful to God. He promises a great light will come and their distress will turn to great rejoicing when the miracle child, Christ will dwell in the area by the sea of Zubulun and Naphtali and bring light to the Gentiles.
Our Prayer
Father thank you for Jesus Christ bringing the light of salvation into our world of darkness. We rejoice in you knowing that Christ has broken all the yoke of the enemy over our lives. Help us to carry the light of Christ and your word into this world of darkness to bring hope to all who will believe in you. We ask in Jesus’ name, amen.
