Matthew 4: 18-23
As Jesus was walking beside the Sea of Galilee, he saw two brothers, Simon called Peter and his brother Andrew. They were casting a net into the lake, for they were fishermen. “Come, follow me,” Jesus said, “and I will make you fishers of men.” At once they left their nets and followed him.
Going on from there, he saw two other brothers, James son of Zebedee and his brother John. They were in a boat with their father Zebedee, preparing their nets. Jesus called them, and immediately they left the boat and their father and followed him.
A Thought
Jesus calls these fishermen to come into ministry and service with him. Once we accept by faith what Jesus the Christ has accomplished for us, we are all called into ministry to work in unity, love to build the kingdom of God. We are to change the focus of our lives from ourselves to God and others. As we develop a right relationship with God, we can share his love with others. In this manner one could say we are fishing to bring mankind back into relationship with God through his Son.
Our Prayer
Father we desire to hear your voice and to follow you in service and love. There are so many in the world today living in darkness; help us to reveal the light of your love to others through us. Prepare us in your word and lead us by your Spirit to be ready to minister wherever and whenever you call. We ask in Jesus’ name, amen.
