1 Corinthians 2: 1-10

And so it was with me, brothers and sisters. When I came to you, I did not come with eloquence or human wisdom as I proclaimed to you the testimony about God. For I resolved to know nothing while I was with you except Jesus Christ and him crucified. I came to you in weakness with great fear and trembling. My message and my preaching were not with wise and persuasive words, but with a demonstration of the Spirit’s power, so that your faith might not rest on human wisdom, but on God’s power.

We do, however, speak a message of wisdom among the mature, but not the wisdom of this age or the rulers of this age, who are coming to nothing. No, we declare God’s wisdom, a mystery that has been hidden and that God destined for our glory before time began. None of the rulers of this age understood it, for if they had, they would not have crucified the Lord of glory. However, as it is written:

“What no eye has seen, what no ear has heard, and what no human mind has conceived” –the things God has prepared for those who love him–these are the things God has revealed by his Spirit.

A Thought

Every person is given a measure of faith. It is my belief that this measure is enough to believe by faith that God exists. When we reject this truth and only accept the wisdom of this world, we will loose what little faith we have been given. When we use this measure, faith will grow enabling us to gain the wisdom of God to understand and accept the mystery that had been hidden from generations about the way of salvation made possible by the life, death and resurrection of Jesus the Christ for all people. After Jesus Christ was resurrected, the Holy Spirit came to earth to draw, to teach and to reveal the things of God to those who will receive it. We should study to gain intellect and seek the Spirit to use that intellect to gain the wisdom of God.

Our Prayer

Father thank you for making all things possible through your son, Jesus the Christ. Thank you for the faith to believe in the truth of your word. Fill us with you Spirit that we will grow into mature followers of you filled with your wisdom. Awaken us, with your power revealed by the Spirit. We ask in Jesus’ name, amen.
