Deuteronomy 30: 15-20
See, I set before you today life and prosperity, death and destruction. For I command you today to love the Lord your God, to walk in his ways, and to keep his commandments, decrees and laws; then you will live and increase, and the Lord your God will bless you in the land you are entering to possess.
But if your heart turns away and you are not obedient, and if you are drawn away to bow down to other gods and worship them, I will declare to you this day that you will certainly be destroyed. You will not live long in the land you are crossing the Jordan to enter and possess.
This day I call heaven and earth as witnesses against you that I have set before you life and death, blessings and curses. Now choose life, so that you and your children may live and that you may love the Lord your God, listen to his voice, and hold fast to him. For the Lord is your life, and he will give you many years in the land he swore to give to your fathers, Abraham, Isaac and Jacob.
A Thought
It seems so foolish to me that anyone would choose death and destruction when God offers life and prosperity. This is the choice God gave his people Israel through the Palestinian Covenant to enter the land of promise. This is the same choice we are given today. In Christ Jesus through faith in humble repentance, we receive life and prosperity. If we do not choose to accept Jesus Christ through faith, we are choosing death and destruction. Consider the amount of sin and disasters all around the world, even in our churches. God was faithful to his word then; God is faithful to his word today and will be faithful throughout all generations.
Our Prayer
Father thank you for delaying your judgement on the people of the earth. Thank you for the gift of grace that you offer to everyone who will believe the truth of your word in humble repentance. Send your Holy Spirit to your children with power to speak your truth in love that others may repent and receive new life in you. We ask in Jesus’ name, amen.
