Exodus 24: 12-18
The Lord said to Moses, “Come up to me on the mountain and stay here, and I will give you the tablets of stone, with the law and commands I have written for their instruction.”
Then Moses set out with Joshua his aide, and Moses went up on the mountain of God. He said to the elders, “Wait here for us until we come back to you. Aaron and Hur are with you, and anyone involved in a dispute can go to them.”
When Moses went up on the mountain, the cloud covered it, and the glory of the Lord settled on Mount Sinai. For six days the cloud covered the mountain, and on the seventh day the Lord called to Moses from within the cloud. To the Israelites the glory of the Lord looked like a consuming fire on top of the mountain. Then Moses entered the cloud as he went on up the mountain. And he stayed on the mountain forty days and forty nights.
The people has agreed to live by the covenant between God and Moses found in the Book of Covenant. Moses has built an alter with twelve stones representing the twelve tribes of Israel where he has made burnt offering and blood offering to worship the Lord. With the covenant made, God invites Moses to enter Mount Sinai where he is to receive his instructions on the tablets of stone. The glory of the Lord covers the mountain on the seventh day. While Moses remains on the mountain for forty days and nights, the Israelites see the glory of God like that of a consuming fire.
Father thank you for your blood covenant made with the Israelites and the complete blood covenant made by the sacrifice of your Son, Jesus Christ made to all people who will believe and accept. Help us to remember our commitments made to you and others. Thank you that one day, we too will see you in your glory and we will be complete, perfect like you. In Jesus’ name, amen.
