John 4: 7-14
When a Samaritan woman came to draw water, Jesus said to her, “Will you give me a drink?” (His disciples had gone into the town to buy food.)
The Samaritan woman said to him, “You are a Jew and I am a Samaritan woman. How can you ask me for a drink?” (For Jews do not associate with Samaritans.)
Jesus answered her, “If you knew the gift of God and who it is that asks you for a drink, you would have asked him and he would have given you living water.”
“Sir,” the woman said, “you have nothing to draw with and the well is deep. Where can you get this living water? Are you greater than our father Jacob, who gave us the well and drank from it himself, as did also his sons and his flocks and herds?”
Jesus answered, “Everyone who drinks this water will be thirsty again, but whoever drinks the water I give him will never thirst. Indeed, the water I give him will become in him a spring of water welling up to eternal life.”
A Thought
The “good news” of Jesus Christ is for everyone. Here Jesus speaks with a Samaritan woman who had been married five times and who is now living in adultery. Jesus offers her the gift of God and living water that will lead to eternal life. Jesus Christ is the gift of God and the living water is God’s Spirit, both work together to make it possible through salvation to be in a right relationship with God and receive eternal life with Him. Do you hear the Spirit of God teaching you about what great the love the Father has for you? The Father gave his one and only Son to die for us that we might have eternal life with Him.
Our Prayer
Father we ask that you continue to draw us to your living water. Awaken us with the power of your Spirit to hunger and thirst for you righteousness available through you Son, Jesus Christ. We ask in his name, amen.
