Psalm 23

The Lord is my shepherd, I shall not be in want. He makes me to lie down in green pastures, he leads me beside still waters, he restores my soul. He guides me in paths of righteousness for his name sake. Even though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I will fear no evil, for you are with me; your rod and staff, they comfort me.

You prepare a table before me in the presence of mine enemies. You anoint my head with oil; my cup overflows. Surely goodness and love will follow me all the days of my life, and I will dwell in the house of the Lord forever.

A Thought

People who choose to obey and follow the word of God are often referred to in scripture as sheep with God as their shepherd. This Psalm reminds us as followers of Jesus Christ the blessings of being his sheep: He will be our provider and guide; We will not be in want; We will rest in green pastures; He will guide us to still waters where our soul will be refreshed; He guides us to make right choices to honor his name; We have no reason to fear evil or death because He is there to protect and to comfort; He gives us a feast and blessing while He protects us from our enemies; His Spirit refreshes and overflows within us while his goodness and love goes with us all the days of our lives leading us to live with him in his house forever. With such great promises, we have no reason to fear, only trust and obey in Jesus the Christ.

Our Prayer

Father thank you that you have provided all we need in your son, Jesus Christ. We have no need of fear because you are with us. Your perfect love casts out all fear. Today, we pray for our President, all leaders, all officials and first responders, and all that have not accepted your love and forgiveness that you will give them your understanding and wisdom of how to follow in your love and peace. We ask in Jesus’ name, amen.
