Isaiah 50: 4-9a

The Sovereign Lord has given me an instructed tongue, to know the word that sustains the weary.    He wakens me morning by morning, wakens my ear to listen like the one being taught.                       The Sovereign Lord has opened my ears, and I have not been rebellious; I have not drawn back.         I offered my back to those who beat me, my cheeks to those who pulled out my beard; I did not hide my face from mocking and spitting.                                                                                                     Because the Sovereign Lord helps me, I will not be disgraced. Therefore I have set my face like flint, and I know I will not be put to shame.                                                                                                    He who vindicates me is near. Who then will bring charges against me? Let us face each other! Who is my accuser? Let him confront me!                                                                                                             It is the Sovereign Lord who helps me.

A Thought

Isaiah writes of the many complaints of Israel about how God has seemingly forsaken them. Today’s scripture passages tells of the future One who will show Israel that God is the Sovereign Lord. The Sovereign Lord has prepared the One who will not be rebellious; will sustain all the weary, will not draw back. He will listen and not be disgraced. He will suffer beatings, mocking and spitting. Israel and no one in all the world will be able to bring any charges against their Sovereign Lord who gave his only Son-Jesus the Christ to bring his people back to Him.

Our Prayer

Father forgive us for all of our rebellious actions against you and others. Help us to remember the great love and grace you gave to all the world through the cost of the life and death of your beloved Son, Jesus Christ. Hosanna! Hosanna! Save us now we ask in Jesus’ name, amen.
